A. Any form of modification may impact your warranty. VW Central will not take any responsibility for damage caused by using the OBDeleven device.

Q: What is SFD2, and how does it affect OBDeleven’s compatibility with 2024+ Volkswagen Group vehicles?
A:
SFD2 (part of UNECE R155 and R156 regulations) is a new security protocol introduced in 2024 Volkswagen Group (VAG) vehicles. It’s designed to protect the vehicle’s software from unauthorised access, particularly for over-the-air (OTA) updates. Due to these new restrictions, OBDeleven currently only communicates with the vehicle’s main gateway control unit. Full system scans and interactions with other control units are limited until full support is implemented.

Q: Can OBDeleven still work with newer 2024+ VAG vehicles?
A:
Yes, but with limitations. OBDeleven can still perform diagnostics through the gateway module; however, access to other control units is currently restricted by SFD2 protections. The OBDeleven development team is working on updates to restore full functionality in accordance with these new security requirements.

Q: What is being done to support SFD2?

The OBDeleven team is collaborating with Volkswagen Group to update the software for full compatibility with SFD2-protected vehicles. This includes implementing new protocols to enable secure access to additional control units while remaining compliant with manufacturer regulations.

Q: Is OBDeleven affected by similar changes in BMW vehicles?
A:
Yes. From 2024 onwards, BMW has introduced similar security restrictions that limit coding access and disable One-Click Apps. These limitations are imposed by the manufacturer and apply to all diagnostic tools, including OBDeleven.

Q: When will full support for 2024+ VAG and BMW vehicles be available?
A:
There is no confirmed release date yet. OBDeleven is actively prioritising support for VAG vehicles and is also exploring solutions for BMW compatibility. Full functionality will be restored as soon as technically possible within manufacturer guidelines.

OBDeleven is being developed together with car manufacturers and their technical support to achieve the best performance. Due to different diagnostic licensing policies across brands and regions, available features may vary depending on your location.
While some manufacturers offer global coverage through a single entity (like the Volkswagen Group), others require to sign with individual country representatives, which takes time to achieve.
OBDeleven’s goal is to have complete, worldwide support for all car brands, and they’re actively working on this.
